Students will be busy during Writer's Workshop! Our first genre of study is Personal Narratives. During our writing time they will be working on:
- Thinking of a small moment from their own life to write about.
- Writing their story in order using transition words such as "first, next, then, after that, and finally".
- Developing descriptive beginnings in which they "hook" their reader by choosing the action, mood, or feeling (telling the who, what, when, and where).
- Bringing their characters to life by making them move, talk, and show feelings or thoughts.
- Writing a conclusion to wrap up their story and bring it all together.
During Reader's Workshop, students will be working on:
- Retelling fictional stories in order using story elements to guide them.
- Identifying the story elements in fictional books (characters, setting, problem, solution)
- Sequencing the events in a story in order from beginning, middle, end.
- Reading "Good Fit" books to build our accuracy and fluency.
- Building reading stamina
- Making our words match the text and paying close attention to all parts of a word
